Trigeminal Neuralgia Association UK
Trigeminal Neuralgia Association UK (TNA UK)supports people with this excruciatingly painful condition with information, advice and an empathetic ear. It also aims to work with healthcare professionals – gathering information which will be useful to our members about treatment choices, for example, and also being a resource for professionals so that they are better able to diagnose and therefore prescribe the right treatment for each patient.
Trigeminal neuralgia is a particular kind of facial pain. Although it has been known about from antiquity, there is no known cause or cure and it is not certain how many people it affects. The Association has about 1300 paid members, but it supports many more who visit the website or speak to a volunteer on one of our helplines (telephone and email). Members receive a pack of information and have access to additional material on the website, use of our members -only forum and are invited to local and national meetings. They are also sent an Alert card which they can show to the public if they are having an attack of pain, reassuring other people and asking that they are guided to a quiet place until the pain has passed.
